Academic discipline and current profession: Geography, Assistant Professor
University of origin: University of Chile
Period of stay in the IIG: April - June 2018
What is your academic background and professional experience?
Degree in Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2001). MSc Environmental Technology, Imperial College, United Kingdom (2002). PhD Environmental Sciences, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain (2009). Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, University of Chile (2010-present).
How did you find the Interuniversity Institute of Geography of the University of Alicante?
I already knew the research work of the professors Antonio Rico Amorós and María Hernández, and in 2017 Rubén Villar, doctorate in the Philosophy and Letters program, in the Research Line of Planning of the regional spaces of the same institution, made a stay at the University of Chile under my supervision.
What motivated your stay at the Interuniversity Institute of Geography of the University of Alicante?
The excellence and academic expertise of the two professors mentioned, their affinity to my research topics, and the reputation of the University of Alicante.
What research project did you develop during your stay?
During my stay I delved into a study on the acceptability of alternative water resources in which we started working with Rubén Villar during his stay in Chile. In Alicante we concluded this work to be published.
To what extent were the technical facilities and the work team of the Institute useful for the development of your research?
The work conditions in the Institute were suitable for the development of my research; the physical space was quiet and with the necessary privacy, whiles the provision of office material and access to the university facilities was very easy and very agilely managed by both academic and administrative staff. The work team was exceptional; in the Institute I found a community that stands out not only for its academic excellence but also for its human quality.
What is your assessment of the educational and recreational offer offered by the university campus?
My assessment is very positive, both with reference to the libraries to which I had access and to the sports facilities I could use.
