Prof. Bas Amelung (Wageningen University & Research, WUR), coordinator of the SIMTWIST project, visits the Institute
From November 25th to 30th, Prof. Bas Amelung, Assistant Professor, from Department of Environmental Sciences at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), visited the Institute. Prof. Amelung has extensive experience about the impact of climate change in tourism activity, with special emphasis on its environmental connotation. During his stay, Prof. Amelung has developed both scientific and teaching activities. Among the main activities developed, it is worth mentioning the field visits and meetings with stakeholders involved in the SIMTWIST project (Simulating tourism water consumption with stakeholders), which is coordinated by Prof. Amelung (with the University of Alicante –through the Interuniversity Institute of Geography– and the University of Bologna as partners).

In the field of teaching activity, Prof. Amelung has held the “Tourism’s Carbon Footprint" Conference to Degree in Tourism and the Master's Degree in Planning and Management of Natural Risks students. This conference had a theoretical-practical nature in which, for example, attendees could calculate the carbon footprint of their last trip through a mobile application.
